Battling Humidity On Your Wedding

Now battling humidity on your wedding day follows a similar thought process but before we get to that some other things to consider. Certain wedding dates and locations tend to be more humidity prone than others. For instance May and June in Virginia are much more likely to be humid than September. The reason I compare these specific months is that the imagery and greenery tends to be similar so if you have the luxury of choosing a less humid month it may be something worth considering. There’s a reason why July is not as popular of a wedding month. 

Your stylist should be essentially going through the same steps that you would at home with products, prep and style. The only way to be sure though is to ask and snoop. Ask what their approach is to combatting humidity. Do they seem confident or pessimistic? Ask to see photos from weddings done in the most humid months because if they can handle that then they can handle less humid months. Ask to see photos of all hair types. Fine hair tends to go flat and curly or textured hair tends to frizz so be on the watch for those things images. Bonus point if you can manage to snag images of early in the day and late at night to see how the style held up. If they only give you a select bunch check out all their social media platforms and of course reviews to sniff out the truth. 

When it comes to choosing your style make sure to have an honest conversation with your stylist. While they shouldn’t be pessimistic about dealing with humidity they need to have a realistic conversation. A down hairstyle in the middle of July is not logistically going to be advised by any stylist but if you’re dead set on that look then your stylist needs to create a game plan as well as communicate that. It most likely should be something like prepping your hair and setting the curls first thing in the schedule then releasing the style close to the end to give those curls the best chance of survival. If you are open to ideas or options consider an updo or something with some structure, (like a cascading style). Styles like a cascading look can give the vibe of a down look with far more structure. 

If your hair tends to frizz a ton you make want to get a blowout the day before to help smooth the hair at a standard blow out bar. There is the option of a permanent or semi permanent straightener that can just reduce frizz but make sure to do your research if this is a path you wish to go down. While they are effective they can be harsh o hair strand. 

Finally, do not be opposed to products. Products will be used and there will likely be a lot of them. No your hair won’t look crunchy nor will it feel like a helmet. Products should be layered. However, if you expect no or minimal products then your look will not last and that’s just the honest truth. Trust your stylist and together you can win the battle against humidity.
